There are so many spots in Pictou County that take your breath away with the sheer beauty and majestic nature of the location. Park Falls is certainly one of those spots. If you haven’t been there before, I can not encourage you enough to go out and enjoy this beautiful spot. Park Falls offers a great spot for swimming, rock climbing, hiking or just overall enjoyment of the day. I only wish I could attach sound to this image!

So many nooks and crannies behold a beautiful sight, and this little marsh is of no exception! The pond boasts ducks and other wildlife during the summer and one can often hear the call of a ring necked peasant in the background. This marsh can be found along the dirt road leading to Waterside Beach. I certainly did not anticipate capturing photos of this beautiful beach prior to the grass and boardwalk being lost to fire. Waterside Beach is definitely one of Pictou County’s best kept secrets! Beauty surrounds you in this picturesque location! Andrea

Firefighters evaluate the scene to determine the next move to get control of the situation.

A large grass fire at Waterside Provincial Park claimed much of the dried sea grass that separates the beach from the parking lot. Caribou Fire Department spent much of the afternoon battling the flames to control the fire and keep it from destroying surrounding forest and a nearby cottage. Pictured are photos taken during the blaze, showing some of the damage. Many boards of the boardwalk will need replacement due to fire damage. Andrea

This time of year is rather dismal in terms of color, but none of that matters when you are perched at the top of Pictou County enjoying the view. I am talking about prescription meds, cocaine, meth, bath salts and any combination of the above. You have all heard the common phrase “Why don’t cops arrest the real criminals”. In each town within Pictou County, you will recognize a certain landmark or building that defines that particular town. Trenton is no exception! A few years ago, the town of Trenton took on a project to revitalize the downtown, and part of this project included adding historic pieces that define Trenton’s past and present. This massive cauldron with liquid metal pouring out is one of the pieces added. This particular piece is best appreciated at night when the lights are on, giving it a true to life feel.
